Q. Your Joint Seal looks like it reacts the same as triple-expanding foam or Great Stuff. Is it any different? At first glance, they LOOK the same but are, in fact, two totally different products. Expanding foams simply fill a void - there is no "seal" to prevent Inflow and Infiltration. They also harden quickly and deteriorate over time. Our Joint Seal seeps into every crack and crevice it can find to make a water-tight, monolithic structure. Also, our Joint Seal does not have the aggresive expansion force that over-the-counter expanding foams have, meaning, it will not "raise" the adjustment ring.
Q. Why wouldn't I just continue to use mortar between the adjustment rings? Mortar will eventually breakdown, crack and fall out between the adjustment rings, allowing inflow and infiltration to occur. Our Joint Seal remains pliable to allow for some movement but the seal will remain water-tight and will not leak.
Q. What about Butyl Rope? Butyl Rope will also dry out and crack, allowing for more I & I problems. Often times, during the installation process, butyl rope may be dropped on the ground, picked up and put into place. This contamination from sand, dust and dirt contribute to the ineffectiveness of butyl rope.
Q. We can see that your Joint Seal adheres well to concrete, but what about the casting? Our AIT Joint Seal was engineered to adhere to wood, concrete and cast or ductile iron. It is ideal for use as a manhole cover sealer. When used as a manhole cover sealant, you can expect the same outstanding product performance as used on concrete adjustment rings.
Q. What if I need to take an adjustment ring off after using your Joint Seal? How easy is that? The beauty of our Joint Seal on adjustment rings is that the bond is strong enough to eliminate I & I problems but you are still able to pry apart the rings using a crowbar. Once separated, the seal may be re-seated by simply pouring another bead of Joint Seal on top of the old bead.
Q. For adjustment ring sections, what is the price difference between your Joint Seal and an interior or exterior seal? Depending on the type of seal currently being used, and factoring in the time necessary to properly install those seals, our AIT Joint Seal will be approximately 1/3 to 1/2 the price of any interior or exterior seal. That is a tremendous savings in itself, but over and above that savings, you can now forget about futures expenses for ineffective seals and wasted labor.
